Environment Highlights From Stranraer

#TeamStranraer with the Green Thumb!

The young people in Stranraer have been working hard this year doing their part to help the environment.

This year the young people investigated alternative means of travel by trying out horse-riding and they’ve also learned about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste products at the Community Reuse Shop.

Recently the team set off across the shores to clean the local beaches of Ardwell Bay with the Solway Firth Partnership and pick the litter from Agnew Park. They also visited The Wee Aird to learn about sustainable food in their local area, and worked with the Incredible Edible to help plant and tend to their own trees, to name just a few.

From combing the beaches to taking part in Speaking Up For Trees and Nature workshops with Speakers Trust, the Stranraer young people have had a very environmental-focused year.

They were also recently visited by the Stranraer & Rhins Young Farmers Club to talk about the local farming community, which cares for the environment as well as their animals.

And for their Summer Scheme they set off to the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park to discuss the effects of climate change upon the environment.

Thanks to The Holywood Trust for funding and supporting our environment course this year, we are happy to announce that our environment course is now one of our core strands of Bridge 2 Employment.
