At BLP No One Is Left Behind!

Wed, 31st Aug 2022

Before the Summer we partnered with The Stove Network to host a variety of workshops for our over 25s to explore employability skills through creative practices.

Back in June, we worked with The Stove Network as part of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s No One Left Behind small grant scheme. These grants have been offered to people and organisations for support and projects designed to help people prepare for employment, training, education and/or volunteering. Our partnership with The Stove Network allowed us to look at supporting our young people aged over 25, through creative sessions. By having practical art workshops we were able to support young people over 25 in developing employability skills, and not just those who are interested in a career in the Arts. We found that the art sessions, helped our young people develop their confidence and social skills which will help them in future opportunities.

We were delighted to offer sessions in Dumfries and Stranraer with Clay Works Studio, which showed our young people a variety of pottery techniques to create their own pots. We also offered a jewellery-making workshop in Castle Douglas with Leanne Bradwick, where the young people learned to make their own jewellery and brooches. A huge thank you to all the people who collaborated on this project and making

Hear more about the project from our Project Co-ordinator, Katharine Wheeler from The Stove, and one of our young people who took part in the project, through the link: At BLP No One is Left Behind! – YouTube
