BLP Celebrates Becoming a Disability Confident Leader

Thu, 16th Nov 2023

Disability Confident is a scheme designed by the government, employers and disabled people to provide a framework for employers on how to recruit and retain team members with disabilities and health conditions. There are three levels to the scheme and each have their own tasks for an organisation to complete. The levels are; Level 1 – Disability Confident Committed, Level 2 – Disability Confident Employer and Level 3 – Disability Confident Leader. The scheme aims to showcase how beneficial a disabled employee can be and how the organisation can support their employees.

We are proud to have been awarded our Disability Confident Leader status. As an organisation supporting autistic young people with additional support needs it is of great importance that we accomplished this milestone.

One of our core responsibilities as a Disability Confident Leader is to break down the many barriers facing people who require additional support. We recognise the value and strength they bring to an organisation. Our team has worked hard to implement key policies to make sure all our team members are respected and understood.

Developing our partnerships with other local businesses and presenting the advantages of being Disability Confident will be our next step and we can’t wait to see our progress in the years to come. We would also like to thank The Usual Place for their help and support going through this process. They are true advocates for change.

“It has been really important for us to become Disability Confident Leaders as it is something we are passionate about. Craig McEwen (The Usual Place) has been a great support in the process and we are looking forward to talking to other employers in the region about the disability confident scheme.” Anne McEwan, Project Coordinator.
