BLP’s Burns Supper!

Wed, 25th Jan 2023

We had celebrations across all three of our sites this Burns Night!

It’s the 25th of January, and in Scotland, that means one thing: Burns Night. Today we celebrated the life of Robert Burns, on his birthday, with a Burns Supper! In Stranraer, we had wonderful festivities and invited Mathew Robinson from DG Youth Work, Ian Johnstone, Billy Donnelly, and Davy McCurdy as a special thank you to them for all the work they do to help #TeamStranraer. We were also joined by John Harvey from Stranraer Fire Services who came to play his bagpipes.

The celebrations started with a poem read by our very own Karen O’Rourke, Team Officer of our Stranraer branch before we started our 3-course meal with some scotch broth and bread. We then commenced with the “Address to a Haggis” with our Haggis being promenaded into the room by bagpipes. After enjoying our Haggis, neeps, and tatties we were entertained by more poems performed by our team and young people as well as some musical styling and singing. This was of course all enjoyed with a nice glass of Irn Bru.

In Dumfries, we also celebrated Burns Night with a delicious Burns supper prepared by the young people. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting down all together to enjoy our Haggis, neeps, and tatties, and Tunnock’s teacakes for dessert.

Finally in Castle Douglas, Alison, our Team Officer in Castle Douglas, came into the workroom in her kilt with her own bagpipes to treat the young people there to some music as well.

It has been a wonderful day for all, and lovely to see all the fun that has been had!
