Environment Highlights From Dumfries

Thu, 18th Aug 2022

From a trip to the wonderfully windy Brockloch Rig Wind Farm Rig Wind Farm to learn about renewable wind power to the trip to Ernespie Farm to meet the new calves and learn all about how the farm cares for their animals, the Dumfries team has been very busy learning about the environment.

The Dumfries team also worked with the Youth Work D&G’s YouthBeatz to encourage people to take the Water Bottle Pledge as part of the Protecting Our Planet grant.

And they took a trip to Mersehead RSPB Reserve to help remove ragwort from the fields to create a nutrient-rich safe habitat for the geese!

We also took a trip today to Rosefield Mills and met with Luke Moloney, Chair of Dumfries Historic Buildings Trust, to find out the history of the building and their plans for the future. This was part of the built environment unit and looking at a local disused building and thinking about how it could be redeveloped. We are going to take ideas from our visit today to make our own plans for the building!

Thanks to The Holywood Trust for funding and supporting our environment course this year, we are happy to announce that our environment course is now one of our core strands of Bridge 2 Employment.
