Jonny Boosts Our Fitness in CD!

Thu, 30th Jun 2022

Jonny, one of our young people in Castle Douglas, has started volunteering with us running his own fitness sessions for the young people and staff!

Jonny, who was one of our first young people to join our Bridge 2 Employment programme, is super into sport and fitness and has plans to open his own gym one day. Jonny is now on our Bridge 2 Business and receiving support to develop his idea of an inclusive gym which offers people a welcoming space to get fit and learn more about nutrition! While in his Bridge 2 Business sessions he has received support working through the legal requirements, and physical requirements of his gym business we have also been able to offer Jonny practical work experience.

Once a week Jonny has been putting our young people and staff through their paces with a series of circuit training sessions. We really got moving during Jonny’s classes as he led us through a warm-up to sets of six exercises and a cooldown. Jonny did really well at leading the sessions and worked hard each week to adapt his plans to fit the needs and abilities of the group.

About his sessions, our Communications Officer, Calypso, said: “I always make sure I bring some spare clothes and my trainers in on the days of Jonny’s fitness session and join in for a workout! We always have a great time, and need a sit-down and a cool drink after.”

Jonny has also been taking part in our Social Media and Marketing class and has been able to spend some time designing possible posters and website plans for his future business.

We look forward to having Jonny restart his sessions when we come back after the summer!
