Our Communication Officer Achieves Her Youth Work Qualification!

Tue, 3rd May 2022

Our Communications Officer, Calypso Coulton, has completed her Modern Apprenticeship in Youth Work! And she has received certificates for her SVQ in Youth Work, SCQF Level 6, and the Youth Work Award.

Calypso joined our team back in December 2020 as our Social Media and Communications Intern, in a role split with Castle Douglas Development Forum. This post was funded by The Galloway Glens Partnership Scheme for 6-months, during this time she focused on supporting our social media feeds and website development and has created a strong sense of branding within our communications.

At the end of her internship, Calypso was offered a position to continue working with us, however, during her time in the workroom Calypso and the rest of our team had come to realise she had an affinity for the work we do and that her knowledge and interest in media and communications could be of benefit to our young people.

Since starting her new role as our Social Media and Communications Officer/Support Work Assistant Calypso has now been supported by the BLP through a Modern Apprenticeship in Youth Work with Borders College. Calypso has planned and delivered her own Social Media & Marketing class and assisted with other sessions and trips alongside her communications work.

Modern Apprenticeships are focused on the workplace and students receive remote support from College tutors using digital technology techniques. The Modern Apprenticeship in Youth Work gives students the opportunity to show that they are committed to equipping the young people of today for their future tomorrow.

About achieving her SCQ in Youth Work, Calypso says:

“I am really excited to have earnt this qualification in Youth Work! Working for Better Lives has given me skills and opportunities I had never imagined and inspired me to continue working with young people throughout my career.”
