Our second trip to Comic-Con!

Mon, 6th Mar 2023

Last weekend #BLPTeamDumfries took their second trip to ACME Comic-Con in Glasgow!

After a very succeful trip to Comic-Con in Glasgow last year, our Dumfries team decided to take on your people for another trip. Having enjoyed it so much last year our young people have been really excited to go again, and have been working on their costumes for weeks in the lead-up to the trip. Some of their costumes included Spider-Man, Princess Peach, and Thor; God of War.

We headed up to Glasgow the day before Comic-Con where, upon arrival, our young people were able to take some free time to enjoy the city and do whatever they wanted. Afterward we headed to our hostel, got checked in, and made our way to Cosmo, the all-you-can-eat world buffet, for dinner. This was a great choice as there was something for everyone to chose from and we all had a really nice meal together. Once we had all eaten our fill the group split into two groups and half went back to the hostel to play some games and chat while the other half went to the cinema to see Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The movie was fantastic, and a great way to get us even more excited for Comic-Con (if that was even pssible).

We headed to bed early(ish) and finally the day had arrived! We were up early doing hair, make-up, and making sure everyone’s costumes looked just right. We had a quick MacDonald’s breakfast, and grabbed some things for lunch at Tesco (delighting children by having Spider-Man in Tesco) and made our way to the SEC event centre. We got into Comic-Con early and spent the day looking around the stalls, getting ourselves some souvenirs, taking lots of pictures, and chatting to lots of fellow attendees!

Some of the highlights from the day included Princess Peach finding her Mario, meeting Pikachu, and getting lots of compliments on our costumes!

Here are a couple of things our young people said about the trip:

“I feel that Comic-Con was a great experience for me and it pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me feel more independent and would definitely go again!”

Emma

“The trip was amazing and the staff did great. I definitely enjoyed it and would go again.”

Don

“I just wanted to say a massive massive thank you to BLP. I can’t thak you enough for this trip as it’s been a big dream of mine to a big one (Comic-Con). Thank you so so much it really has been amazing!”

Lewis

Hearing how much our young people enjoyed this trip has been wonderful and we are so happy they have all enjoyed it so much and got so much out of the experience. We would like to thank Youth Work DG’s 10,000 Voices fund, Tesco Community Grant for helping to fund the trip. We would also like to thank everyone who made the Dumfries Christmas Fayre a huge success, this was part of our fundraising for the trip and it made our little adventure possible.
