Team Dumfries Turns One!

Tue, 13th Sep 2022

Today, the Better Lives Partnership’s Dumfries Site celebrates its first anniversary!

On Monday the 13th of September, 2021, after receiving funding from The Holywood Trust, we opened the doors of our Dumfries Site for the first time and welcomed the young people into our new workroom.

Carolyn Kennedy, our Chief Executive Officer, had this to say, “It’s hard to believe that 1 year ago we opened our third Bridge to Employment (B2E) site in Grierson House, The Crichton, Dumfries. What a year it has been – congratulations and thanks to our amazing staff team, the young people and to our stakeholder partners who have all contributed so much to make this project the success it is. We look forward to further developing B2E@ Nithsdale and Annandale ensuring more young people with autism and additional barriers can have access to the opportunities they need to achieve their positive outcome”

We are all so incredibly proud of Dumfries for having such an outstanding first year!

Here are just a few of the things the young people and parents have said about the past year of our Dumfries site:

“BLP has given William some much needed routine and purpose. His confidence has increased as he has tried new things and developed new skills. The staff are amazing – friendly and supportive, and keep in touch with how things are going. So pleased to have found them!”

“Being here at BLP is fulfilling and rewarding. The work we do – and the fun we have – is so important and it’s wonderful to be a part of this team and the community we’ve built together”

“BLP has helped develop my son’s confidence, life skills and allowed him to make friends. He is able to pursue his own interests alongside learning essential independent living skills.
He feels safe at BLP and goes there for his lunch from college.
The staff are always helpful and supportive in every way.
Fantastic place I would recommend to any young person on the Autistic spectrum.”

“BLP has changed our lives!
After 3+ years stuck at home we found this amazing place and instantly it was like a magic wand has been waved.
Met the lovely staff and straight away my son started BLP full time and has settled in like he’s always been there 💜 BLP has gave him a purpose to his life again.”

“BLP is a godsend to my vinny, gets him up, in a routine, mixing with people, learning life skills. The staff are amazing, keep everything running smoothly and have made a safe place for our young people to be. ❤️”

“BLP makes a huge difference to our lives – it gives a sense of purpose, confidence, new skills, builds on existing skills, helps create life goals – and is a very welcome mood changer!
Such amazing staff – could not be better – they really deliver for these young people!”

“I love working for BLP. I enjoy watching all our YP grow In confidence and be comfortable to be them in our safe place. The YP amaze me daily!”

“I enjoy attending BLP, all my life I have struggled to fit in anywhere but I like that have similar interests as some others that attend blp. It is not like school I was worried about that before I started as I had a hard time at school but it’s much better.”

“I have very much so enjoyed BLP it has given myself new pals and experiences IGN 10/10”

“BLP has changed my life so much. I love coming here and feel like we are a family here”

“Coming to BLP has helped me build up my confidence and enhanced my pre – existing skills as well as developing new skills. I feel very valued when I’m here and don’t know where I would be without it.”
