#TeamStranraer Hits Glasgow
Thu, 17th Feb 2022On Monday the 14th of February some of the young people and staff from Better Lives Stranraer hopped on a coach down to Glasgow for the day as part of the Bridge 2 Creative.
Diana Hamilton, from Accessible Art who led our Street Art (NPA) course in Stranraer, took the group on a walking tour around the streets of Glasgow, showing us the many beautiful wall murals and street art graffiti that was painted on some of the street walls.
We took wonderful photos of street art and admired the city and its surroundings before tucking into a well-needed lunch at Wetherspoons, where we had the opportunity to socialise and wind down from the long bus journey, enjoying pizzas and burgers alike.
After recharging our batteries, we set off for the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Arts) for a delightful tour around the main museum, taking in the many influential pieces submitted by famous and or well-known artists, these included the room of “Domestic Bliss”. We entered a large, white, reflective, glossy floored room that features different pieces of interpreted media by numerous different artists. We all found this fascinating and discussed our own interpretations.
During our visit to the Gallery of Modern Arts, we took part in a press printing workshop which we all found informational and fun to partake in and gave us a more hands-on experience with creating our very own pieces of art.
When we left the gallery, we had moments to spare where some of us spread off, taking the opportunity to visit the local stores surrounding the gallery. Once we got on the coach for our journey back, we continued our tour of wall murals, looking at the more sizeable exhibits on display. On our way back we took the rare chance to stop at Mcdonalds’ for a well-deserved bite to eat.
All our young people and staff alike enjoyed their time in Glasgow!
