#TeamStranraer Named Educator of the Year!
Sun, 12th Jun 2022Congratulations to #TeamStranraer for winning Awarding Wigtownshire’s Educator of the Year award!
On Saturday the 11th of June, Awarding Wigtownshire hosted an evening ceremony recognising and celebrating the exceptional achievements of businesses, individuals, charities, and volunteers in Wigtownshire’s exceptional community. One of their awards was for Educator of the Year, an award to celebrate individuals or organisations who offer incredible educational services. And this year it went to our very own Team Stranraer of the Better Lives Partnership!
Team Stranraer is absolutely deserving of this award and everyone in the Better Lives Partnership team is very proud of everything they have achieved. Leading this incredible team is the wonderful Karen O’Rourke, our Team Officer in Stranraer. Karen has been Team Officer since we opened in Wigtownshire in January 2020, and her experience and leadership have made our Stranraer workroom an incredible place for our young people and staff.
About winning the award, Karen said:
“This award means so much to Team Stranraer as it represents the opinion of our own community. Thanks to everyone across Wigtownshire who donate so much of their time, energy and resources to support us. Thank you to our wonderful team who always go the extra mile and whose knowledge, skills and kindness inspire our group to rise to the challenges they face. We feel rewarded every single minute we spend with our amazing young people. Most of all, thank you to the incredible young people themselves – we are so proud of you and truly enjoy learning alongside you.”
One of our young people from Stranraer added:
“I am super proud of Better Lives, good job on winning the award for best educator, I think you deserve it!”
Carolyn Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer of Better Lives Partnership said;
Congratulations to Karen and her Team in Wigtownshire on winning ‘Educator of the Year’ Award 2022. The Trustees and Management of Better Lives Partnership are delighted and proud of the staff and young people of our Bridge to Employment Programme in Wigtownshire. Thanks to Awarding Wigtownshire, D&G College, our funders, D&G Council, the businesses, third sector organisations and individuals within the local community who have been so supportive of the work we do with young people with autism and additional barriers in Wigtownshire. We look forward to continuing to develop our Programme ensuring sustainability and offering additional opportunities and choices to young autistic people looking for their ‘positive destination’.
This award means so much to Team Stranraer and the rest of the Better Lives Team, their dedication to their young people is a constant source of inspiration.
