A Wonderful Weekend Away

Tue, 8th Mar 2022

Last week some of our young people from our Castle Douglas and Dumfries projects had an overnight trip to Glasgow!

The trip started with a tour at Whitelee Windfarm the UK’s largest onshore windfarm, as part of our Environment course which is funded by The Holywood Trust. Kathleen from East Renfrewshire Rangers took us for a short tour of the Windfarm and gave us plenty of information on this source of renewable energy. We also had a chance to play with some windsocks!

After our visit, we made the final drive to Glasgow and after checking into the hostel we went out for a cheeky Nandos, where we have looked after all evening by Moreno, our fab waiter. After dinner, the group split up. While some went ten pin bowling others went to see Robert Pattinson’s debut as the Bruce Wayne in ‘The Batman’.

William said: “Batman movie is likely to be the best movie of the year. All of it was amazing!”

After a fun-filled evening, we had an early start on Saturday morning, enjoying breakfast and heading over to ACME Comic-Con. Many of our young people are huge fans of comics, superhero movies, and manga so this was a wonderful opportunity for them to share an amazing experience together. Many of our young people made their own costumes and quite a few of our young people were asked to pose for photos with other visitors of the events. This was a true testament to the amount of time and effort they had put into their costumes!

Catherine, our Dumfries Team Officer who organised the trip said: “It was great from beginning to end, the only thing we would change is the breakfast, we’d go elsewhere next time.

We have so many happy memories from our weekend. one of my favourites, was Aidan knocking on our bedroom door, and so excited as a family had asked him to pose for a photo with their son, as he was waiting for the lift, he was so excited and happy.

Other happy moments, how well the Castle Douglas and Dumfries young people interacted and kept an eye out for each other. We loved all of it! ‘

A huge thank you to our Dumfries team for organising this amazing trip for our young people and taking the time out of their weekend to share it with them.

This trip was part of the young people’s Bridge 2 Creative sessions which are supported by Creative Communities, Inspiring Scotland.
