Contract Extension for Thomas!

Mon, 9th Jan 2023

In June, 2022, we were delighted to announce that we, with the support provided by the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership, were able to hire our second Social Media and Communications Intern, Thomas McClure.

We are now equally delighted to announce that his six-month contract has been extended until late April!

“I am so grateful for this opportunity to continue working with Better Lives Partnership. This past half-year has been an incredible experience for me. The skills I have learned from my time here are very valuable both in my personal life and for my professional life. My confidence has greatly improved and I’ve learned so much about photography and social media management. I’ve also met so many wonderful people, including staff and young people and more, and I’ve been a part of amazing activities and trips. It’s been an amazing experience, and I’m so excited to continue through the spring. A huge thank you to the Galloway Glens for supporting me and enabling me to continue working at BLP.”

– Thomas

He has also recently met up with the other interns and former interns that have been supported by the Galloway Glens, led by Jan Hogarth. Thomas McClure met up with Phoebe from the CatStrand, Phoenix from the Carsphairn Community Woodland, and Alyx and Dan from the Galloway Fisheries Trust, at the Kenbridge Hotel in New Galloway. It was an enriching experience to meet up with the other interns and discuss their achievements and experiences and goals for the future.

Thomas joined the team shortly after graduating from the University of Glasgow with a Masters in Creative Writing. In his role, he works with Calypso to run the social media accounts for Better Lives Partnership, including the main Facebook page, the Instagram account, the Twitter account, the LinkedIn Account, and the website and blogs, as well as cooperating with those who run the Stranraer’s Facebook page and Dumfries’s Facebook page. He also does the photography, alongside Calypso and others, for the social media posts.

We are always looking to create additional opportunities to ensure our young people have the best chance for a positive outcome. We look forward to seeing Thomas continue his work with us and help us to ensure young people with autism an additional barriers and their families across Dumfries and Galloway have the support they need.
