Getting Our Garden Ready for Spring
Thu, 7th Apr 2022Our Dumfries young people have been getting their garden at the Crichton ready for Spring.
One of the options available to our young people as part of our Bridge 2 Employment @ Annandale and Nithsdale project is a Gardening ASDAN. This accredited course offers exciting and rewarding activities to develop skills and knowledge through gardening, and a core part of this course is learning practical skills. Glasgow University’s Environmental Studies department has very kindly given us use of their garden, including two raised beds and the greenhouse, at The Crichton.
This space is a great benefit to our young people as they are able to work on their practical skills, spend time outside, and grow their own vegetables.
In preparation for the new season our young people have been hard at work weeding our raised beds ready for their quickly growing tomatoe, sweetcorn and green bean plants, and moved those seedlings into bigger pots. They have also painted and treated the wooden green house to keep it protected from the elements, particularly the rain which persists long into the British summer.
We would like to thank the Enviromental Studies Department again for allowing us the use of this amazing space, and look forward to showing you our young people’s gardening success in the future!
