Reece Updates Us on His Kickstart
Wed, 8th Jun 2022In February 2022, Better Lives Partnership welcomed our second Government Kickstart placement to our growing team. We were delighted to welcome Reece to our team in Stranraer as our Social Media Assistant!
Here is what he has to say about his Kickstart placement so far:
“Hello, my name is Reece McCall. I am the Social Media Assistant at B2E @ Wigtownshire! My position is funded through the Government’s Kickstarts Scheme.
I started in February of 2022, and I am two-thirds of the way through my 6-month paid position. In my role, I have been supporting #TeamStranraer by collecting and creating content for Better Lives Partnership’s various social media sites. This could be Reels for Instagram, photos, captions for Facebook posts, and even written blog posts for our website.
Recently that content included a celebration of Volunteer week. Volunteer week is a week of celebration and gratitude which runs from the 1st of June until the 7th. It is a large thank you to the volunteers in the UK who give up their time to help organisations and businesses, including Better Lives Partnership.
This year #TeamStranraer wanted to highlight the volunteers who help our young people and staff in the form of a positive video. Thanking them for their hard work and explaining just how much their input positively impacts Better Lives and the young people who attend.
As the Social Media Assistant, I took on this project and included an interview with one of our volunteers, Sophie. I asked her about her experiences and just how rewarding of an experience it is to volunteer here. I also included testimony from Karen, our Team Officer in Stranraer, and two of our young people who expressed just how important and amazing the volunteers here are at Better Lives.
One thing that I learnt from making this video for volunteer week was subtitling a video and making a pre-set. This is an important tool which will make future videos easier and more satisfying to produce.
Since I started my role in February, I have developed a great relationship with the staff and young people alike. And I have developed important workplace skills and have utilised them well within my role here at Better Lives. Furthering my experience in Photography also. The one thing I have learnt most importantly is how to manage and maintain relationships with co-workers, I feel as though I have left a good impression and working alongside a great team with a great work ethic has certainly helped that.
I am enjoying my role here at Better Lives as I love taking photos and working alongside such a great team, building relationships with staff and the young people it is all very rewarding. I have learnt so much since I started my role here, especially with building relationships with people.
All in all, it has been an overwhelmingly positive 4 months, and I am looking forward to the future!”
