Sean Visits Robertson Gemini

Thu, 9th Sep 2021

Last week Sean took a special visit to Robertson Gemini, to see their Austin Ruby Seven.

Caroline Robertson, a Trustee of our Board and the owner and manager of Robertson Gemini invited Sean especially to see the Austin Ruby Seven which is being featured in the garage to mark its 20th Anniversary. Having known Sean while he completed a work placement at Robertson Gemini, Carolyn remembered his love for cars which he has been demonstrating in Bridge 2 Creative through his drawing.

The Austin Seven Ruby was used in London and Carlisle and the Stewartry by its first owner until 1963, after 2 more years of use it was bought for just £5 in Castle Douglas. The price was so low as it was deemed unsuitable for the roads. The car was then left unused until 1979 when the car was bought by its third owner, John McKay. John saw that the Austin Ruby Seven was completely dismantled and rebuilt to restore it to its former glory. Over the next 10 years, Ruby covered over 40,0000 miles and toured Europe. While the Ruby has seen less use over the last few years and since John’s death in 2017, Ruby has been kept in the family and returned to the road.

After going along to see the Ruby and learn about its long history, Sean took some pictures to take back to the work room and use to do further drawings.

Thank you Caroline we look forward to showing you Sean’s drawings!
