Stranraer Guitar

Mon, 23rd Jun 2025

Stranraer is alive with the sound of music with local musician Billy Donnelly in regularly teaching guitar and keyboards too! The sessions are a fantastic addition to the weekly timetable, offering a group of young people the opportunity to develop new skills and work together to produce some amazing results. Each week the group meets to learn individually as well as in an ensemble and the sounds coming from their rehearsal space are wonderful!

They have found that their music sessions impact on other areas of the curriculum too – they have had their creative writers’ poetry set to music, they have had mini recitals and have often found the whole group singing along to popular tunes. Music is a really positive, joyful way to bring our young people (and staff) together to celebrate achievement and to develop skills such as teamwork, communication and creativity. There is a tangible impact on the wellbeing of everyone at Team Stranraer. The group is currently working on a performance piece that will be revealed at their forthcoming presentation evening – watch (or listen to!) this space.
