Votes for BLP!

Thu, 30th Jun 2022

Better Lives Partnership has made the shortlist for Youth Work D&G’s 10,000 Voices in Action!

10,000 Voices in Action is a project focused on enabling young people to use their voices and to have autonomy over their own funding. Therefore young people decide for themselves who receives funding through a vote. Better Lives Partnership has been shortlisted for funding across all 3 of our locations, in Castle Douglas, Stranraer and Dumfries.

In Dumfries, the young people have asked that we apply for 10,000 Voices in Action Funding so that we could continue to develop our Bridge 2 Employment project in the following areas: Social Inclusions; Building Friendships; and Mental Health. The money, if successful, will go towards adult fidget toys to relieve anxiety, outdoor activities and leisure trips to build upon social inclusion and friendship building amongst our young people, and a cooker installation to improve our facilities for young people’s independent living course and individual tasks.

#TeamStranraer, as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022 and using the legend of Fionn MacCumnhaill, hope to use the funding as a project that will celebrate the creative outcomes of a 10-week animation course currently being undertaken by the young people at Better Lives Stranraer. We will display our artwork locally and at the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre.  We will also visit the Causeway to enhance our understanding of storytelling in our cultural heritage.

In Castle Douglas, our young people have decided to use, if successful, any 10,000 Voices in Action Money on opportunities to link socially with one another. One of the primary ways in which they would like to do this is through food! Part of this money will go toward the young people being able to run their own pop-up cafes to make lunch for one another and take lunches out. The young people in Castle Douglas are also hopeful to use this money towards getting themselves a workroom pet which they can share the responsibility of caring for.

It’s a short and simple process that only takes a minute of your time! If you’re a young person make sure your voice is heard and vote for the projects you would like to see funded in your Ward. You can vote for BLP (and other projects!) in Wards 1, 4 and 9.
